St. John’s, NL- December 12, 2018- Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries are pleased to announce the arrival of a new multilingual adult fiction collection that will be housed in St. John’s at the A.C. Hunter Public Library. The collection includes new fiction novels in Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Urdu, Bengali, and Spanish, as well as new additions to the pre-existing French fiction and French non-fiction collections.

The new books are available through generous support from the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism. The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour notes, “All Newfoundlanders and Labradorians benefit when we acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of cultures that call this province home. This multicultural book collection will enable people of all backgrounds to see themselves represented in reading materials and learn more about each other.”

The multilingual collection will also include books from our previous collection in Japanese and German, multilingual films, plus digital magazines and newspapers in over 50 languages. Patrons outside of St. John’s can talk to their local library staff about borrowing these books and movies through interlibrary loan, or they can access digital resources online using their library card.
