If a taxpayer needs information that is beyond the volunteer’s expertise\, they can find more information on the website or contact the Canada Revenue Agency. \nOur volunteers will only process current-year tax returns; however\, they will only complete tax returns they feel comfortable preparing based on the information the taxpayer gives them. \n\nComplex tax situations are not supported\nVolunteers will not complete a deceased taxpayer’s return\, or returns that have any of the following: \n\nself-employment income or employment expenses Exception1\nbusiness income and expenses\nrental income and expenses\ninterest income over $1\,200\ncapital gains or losses\nbankruptcy in the tax year (or the year before\, if that return has not yet been filed)\nforeign property (Form T1135)\nforeign income Exception2Exceptions\n\n\n\nException 1\nIndividuals who have a T4A slip\, Statement of Pension\, Retirement\, Annuity\, and Other Income\, that shows self-employed or business in box 048 may be eligible to have their tax return completed through the CVITP if all of the following conditions are met: \n\nthe total income in box 048 is under $1\,000\nno expenses are claimed\nthe individual is not registered as a GST/HST registrant and is not required to be one\n\nReturn to exception1referrer \n\nException 2\nIndividuals who receive U.S. Social Security benefits are eligible to have their tax return completed through the CVITP.
