As part of commemorating the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries (NLPL) is showcasing a selection of still image collections that highlight our province’s experiences and contributions surrounding September 2001. Two collections that capture this moment in history can be found in our Gulf News Collection and our Anne Clift Collection.
Passengers from an Air France flight are shown here in a photograph from the former Gulf News newspaper in Port aux Basques arriving at the Port aux Basques Ferry Terminal after the events of September 11. Unable to continue their journey by air, the passengers chartered a bus to Port aux Basques to travel by ferry to North Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Looking for more historical images? NLPL is currently digitizing over 5000 photographs and more than 1400 postcards from our NL Collection, spanning the late 19th to 20th centuries. Contact the A.C. Hunter Reference Desk at reference@nlpl.ca for help finding images of interest or visit the Newfoundland and Labrador Collections and Services Info Guide to see select photos from our collections.
