    Home Heating Supplement

The Home Heating Supplement is available to residents of the province whose adjusted family income for 2025 was $150,000 or less and have directly incurred costs for the purchase of furnace or stove oil to heat their principal residence in Newfoundland and Labrador.

      Changes to Overdrive/Libby Holds Limits

Starting Monday, August 3rd, NL Public Libraries will be reducing the maximum number of holds library users can place in Libby/Overdrive from 30 to 10.

Following the lead of many other libraries across Canada, NLPL is making this change in order to reduce wait times and provide our patrons with more equitable access to eBooks and eAudiobooks.  Over the past ten years, the demand for these items has grown by 245%, resulting in longer wait times. This demand has also impacted NLPL’s budget for digital materials, as the cost of library licenses for eBooks and eAudiobooks is much higher than print book prices or retail eBook prices, and continues to rise.

Currently, users of the digital library are able to place up to 30 holds. Starting August 3rd, NLPL will be reducing the number to 10 holds per library patron. Anyone with more than 10 holds prior to that date will still retain them, but will be unable to place more holds until their number of holds drops below 10.

For more information, please visit https://nlpl.ca/about-the-digital-library/ and click on the Overdrive/Libby Holds Limit button.

Michael Donovan Public Library Moving from Waterford Valley Mall

Michael Donovan Public Library’s last day open in the Waterford Valley Mall will be June 13th as we prepare to move out at the end of the month.

Originally opening in the Waterford Valley Mall in 1989, this small library has provided collections, services, and programming to the residents of West End St. John’s for over 30 years.  Identification of a new location for Michael Donovan Public Library is currently in process.  The library’s new location will allow it to continue serving the city’s West End, providing a vital community space.

Former Michael Donovan Public Library patrons are encouraged to check out the A.C. Hunter Public Library for all of their library needs during this transition. Be sure to stay tuned to the Michael Donovan Public Library’s Facebook page for updates on a new location, as well as the NLPL website (nlpl.ca).
