CAIL Workshop: Cultural Awareness Indigenous Learning in Newfoundland and Labrador

Join us for an engaging workshop designed to deepen understanding of Indigenous cultures in Newfoundland and Labrador.
This session will:
• Highlight some of the Indigenous cultures traditions, and contemporary experiences of the province’s Indigenous Peoples, including the Inuit, Innu, and Mi’kmaq.
• Explore the importance of Indigenous cultural awareness and its relevance both locally and beyond.
• Provide guidance on inclusive language, effective land acknowledgments, and best practices for meetings and community engagement.
• Discuss the horrid legacy of residential schools in Newfoundland and Labrador, including their impacts and ongoing relevance to reconciliation efforts.
• Offer practical strategies for recognizing and addressing unconscious bias, fostering reconciliation, and promoting anti-racism in a holistic manner.
Participants will have opportunities for open discussion, reflection, and learning, with a focus on respectful allyship and building trust and mutual respect and understanding.

Erin is an Indigenous woman with deep roots in the south coast of Labrador, member of NunatuKavut. She specializes in providing Cultural understanding, awareness and respect in all aspects of her work, life and community relying on her deep connection to Labrador and Newfoundland.
