Pysanka Workshop with UNF Avalon
April 12 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Our friends from the Ukrainian National Foundation- Avalon are back. What is a pysanka, you may ask? Simply put, it is an Easter egg decorated using a wax resist (also known as batik) method. The term derives from the Ukrainian verb “pysaty,” which means “to write.” (“Pysanka” is singular; “pysanky” is plural.) However, it is much more than just a decorated egg. Ukrainians have been creating these miniature works of art for generations, infusing them with ritualistic elements, magical thinking, and calls to gods and goddesses for health, fertility, love, and wealth. There is a deep yearning for eternity, the sun, and the stars, connecting with the divine.
